Cyprus pink slip processing time is usually four months, which is the Migration Department's own figure for a visitor permit. What that figure assumes is a complete file, and the gap between four months and what people actually experience is almost always the file.
Cyprus pink slip processing time: four months from when
From a complete application being accepted, not from the day you decide to move. The part nobody publishes is the stage before: collecting an apostilled criminal record certificate from wherever you used to live, taking the Cyprus medical tests, getting a health insurance policy in force, signing a lease, and having documents translated by a certified translator.
On a normal file that stage runs longer than the Department's own turnaround.
How it compares
| Route | Published decision time |
|---|---|
| EU registration certificate (MEU1) | 1 month |
| Company of foreign interests | 1 month |
| Digital nomad permit | 5 to 7 weeks |
| Investor permanent residence, Reg 6(2) | about 2 months |
| Visitor permit | usually 4 months |
The visitor permit is the slowest of the commonly used routes, which surprises people who assume the simplest permit is the quickest. It is slow because it is the default, not because it is complicated.
The three things that reset it
- A missing apostille. Documents issued abroad generally need one from the issuing country.
- A translation nobody certified. A correctly apostilled document with an uncertified Greek translation is treated as having no translation.
- Income evidence that does not match. The route wants remittances into a Cyprus bank of around EUR 2,000 a month, or a transfer or deposit of at least EUR 10,000 for a first permit. A bank statement showing a balance is not the same as remittances arriving.
Files come back for these quietly, and the clock effectively starts again.
What to do with four months
Plan the overlap. The permit is issued for one year and renewed after that, so a four-month decision inside a one-year document means you are preparing the renewal not long after you have the first one. Keep the lease, the remittance record and the insurance running continuously, because at renewal the Department wants at least EUR 6,000 still in the account.
The route and its documents are on the Migration Department's visitors page.
Common questions
- How long does a Cyprus pink slip take?
- The Migration Department says a visitor permit is usually decided within four months. The first permit is issued for one year and is renewable.
- Can it be accelerated?
- No accelerated option is published for the visitor permit. The routes with faster published targets are different permits, not faster versions of this one.
- What restarts the clock?
- A file returned for a missing apostille, an uncertified translation, or income evidence that does not match the form of income claimed.
If your permit or visa-free year ends soon, the dates matter
Renewals and changes of permit type have to be filed before your current status ends. We can check your dates with you and tell you what still fits.
